Book excerpt: Photodynamic therapy utilizes photosensitizers together with irradiating light of specific wavelengths interacting with oxygen to generate cytotoxic reactive oxygen species, in particular singlet oxygen, for clinical treatment of several malignant and non-malignant pathologies.
