West was a member of the Privy Council during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Two of his sons served as the Governor of Virginia: Captain John West, from 1635 to 1637; and Sir Thomas West, 3rd Lord De La Warr, from 1609 to 1618. Another son, Captain Francis West, served as Deputy Governor of Virginia from 1627 to 1629. Table also includes the Dandridge, Gregory, and Claiborne families.
