Book excerpt: Abstract: "We are concerned by the diffraction of acoustic and elastic waves in a R2-non bounded domain. We introduce the concept of resonance as poles of the meromorphic extension in C of the scattering amplitude. We establish a caracterisation of them as zeros of the eigenvalues of an operator which is defined on the boundary of the obstacle. We give a variational formulation to define this operator, adapt it to a numerical method, and then present some results."
