Book excerpt: This study objective was to determine pavement friction characteristics throughout the service life of hot mix bituminous surfaces based on coarse aggregate source. Data from 1286 sections of Interstate and Primary Roadways was used in this analysis. Friction tests were performed between 1974 and 1979 using a two wheel friction tester substantially complying with the requirements of AASHTO T242.
