In 1070 he married malcolm III's sister, Beatrix and founded the Clan Leslie which was named after a castle in Garioch in Aberdeenshire. Descendants of Bartholomew include the Earls of Rothes, Levan, Melville and Lords of Lesley, Lindores and Newark. Descendants live throughout the British Isles and Ireland and in other parts of the world.
