Where he cautions the Corinthians against joining with idolaters in their religious festivals, be cause they could not do it without holding communion with those de mons in honour of whom they were celebrated His argument is to this purpose: That as in the Lord's supper we hold a communion with Christ, and as the Jews in their sacred feasts communicated with God at his altar, so' in these idolatrous feasts they held a religious comme nion with the idol.'
