Book excerpt: This thesis describes the sizing, dynamic modelling, and control of an automatic solar irrigation pumping system with energy storage for extraction of groundwater for irrigation utilizing an alternative source of energy. The system design is based on site data of an existing project in Bangladesh. Sizing estimation, sensitivity analysis, and optimization are done in HOMER. MATLAB simulation is performed for all alternative types of energy storage systems to study the dynamic behaviors of system components. A water level sensor observes the tank water level and a programmed sensor module measures the temperature, humidity, soil moisture level and send the information to ESP32 microcontroller. Based on the information and boundary conditions, the microcontroller decides either to start or to stop the pump motor and sends results to the web server so that the user can see that. The user can operate the irrigation system far from the field by a simple click on a cellphone. This research also provides a comparative study among all alternative systems as well as the conventional diesel engine system from the economic point of view to give an optimal solution of an automated solar irrigation pumping system with energy storage.
