Book excerpt: The book is in three separate parts. The first instalment sees, Lana hamsternapped by a naughty hamster and held captive at Southwell Minster. She contacts a cousin, Marto, in Nottingham. He gathers together a band of hamsters who travel across rural Nottinghamshire to rescue Lana. En-route they encounter various indigenous creatures who help them on their way. The journey takes an age and by the time they finally arrive Lana has become accustom to her new life style and all the hamsters settle to live together. Part two has the hamsters becoming bored with the lack of adventure living at the Minster. To releave the tedium they form a rock band, 'The Rodent Stones'. The story has them then travelling back to local villages to invite all the creatures from their original adventure to attend the inaugral gig. The final story sees Marto captured and taken to the pet shop in Nottingham from where he had originally escaped. Having lost their leader the other hamsters bumble their way back and rescue him. Realising that they are growing too old for all these adventures the hamsters decide to retire at the seaside. They are helped along the way by other animals that had not appeared in the first two parts. There are 33 chapters in all. Sat within the overall framework of the books each chapter acts as a 10 to 15 minute story in itself, always starting with the hamsters waking up late, and going to bed tired. These can therefore be read seperately to a child each night. Each chapter has three illustrations.
