He built a sawmill in what was first known as "Slab Town," but the name eventually changed when sawmill worker George Badger, resolving to be the first to honor village's founder, climbed a pine tree and nailed a placard with TIFTON on it, a condensed version of "Tift's Town." Today, this thriving community is a meeting place for Interstate 75/U.S. 41, U.S. 319, and U.S. 82, and boasts a long and proud history. Tifton, Georgia in Vintage Postcards reveals the early beginnings of the town and its story to the present day, with picturesque street scenes; local schools, including Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College; Georgia Coastal Plains Experiment Station; people and sports; and industry and agriculture. Also highlighted in this engaging volume is the nearby community of Ty Ty.
