A complementary code covering offshore operations (Part 8 of the IP Code of Safe Practice) entitled Drilling and Production in Marine Areas (2nd Edition) was published in 1972, and compliance with both IP Codes is a condition of the granting by the Secretary of State for Energy of a licence to carry out such operations.
