Died at Galveston, Tex., September 27,1876. Alexander R. Lawton. Born in St. Peter's Authorized by Act of Congress approved February 28, 1861, as follows: "Sec. 4. That such forces (provisional forces for the Confederate States of America) may be received . . .; and the President shall appoint, by and with the advice and consent of Congress, such general officer or officers for said forces as may be necessary for the service."
