Book excerpt: This Article examines the experiences of least developed countries (LDCs) that have acceded to the WTO with a view to drawing lessons that would be helpful to the acceding LDCs to devise successful strategies and avoid mistakes to gain maximum benefits from their WTO membership. It is divided into six sections. Following this introduction, the second section briefly deals with the WTO accession process from the legal perspective. The third section assesses the experiences of acceded LDCs during their accession process and accession negotiations. The fourth section highlights the challenges encountered by acceded LDCs in the implementation of their accession commitments. The fifth section draws lessons from the experiences of LDCs that would be relevant to the acceding LDCs. The last section forwards some recommendations.
