Book excerpt: Excerpt from Ninety-Ninth Annual Report of the Municipal Government of the City of Nashua, New Hampshire for the Financial Year 1951 We are gathered here today for the inaugural and organization of a new city government for the ensuing two years, and again we find our selves in a state of war, call it action of policing if you 'will, but as an overseas veteran of World War 1, how well I know of the sacrifices, and hardships endured by our uniformed forces and my sympathy and thoughts are extended to the parents and relatives of these servicemen and women, who carry on their daily task, with heads aloft, though with sadness in their hearts, that we shall be a free nation and free people. I feel that Nashua, as in the past, will meet this emergency with the help of the special units such as Civil Defense, u.s.o. And others, if occasion should arise.
