Introduces non-Western theoretical ideas outside the purview of Euro-American film theory, such as Henry Corbin's Sufi ideas of the 'Iimaginal World' and 'Cognitive Imagination' to analyse Parjanov's Ashik Kerib, on a Sufi poet. 3. Marcel Mauss' concept of the gift derived from his anthropological study of Maori culture is used to formulate a reciprocal relationship between film and the viewer as a scholar of cinema.
