Book excerpt: Professor Vunderverk is an amiable, myopic and ever so slightly eccentric inventor with a powerfully delusional imagination. His irrepressible positivity and absolute refusal to acknowledge reality lead him into some very interesting situations, but his unquenchable thirst for scientific knowledge and total belief in his own inventions carry him though. In the first of the Professor's adventures, he is convinced he has built a spacecraft in his garage which will take him to Mars, and blasts off for an interplanetary voyage of discovery. His rocket is only airborne for a few minutes before crash landing on the angry red planet's surface, but the Professor puts this down to intergalactic hyper drive and commences scientific investigations immediately. The fact that there is a strange rubbishy smell and most of the objects he comes across are also present at his local garbage dump does not deter the Professor one iota. He excitedly records his findings and discoveries on this strange and magical new orb. Curiously enough, once the Professor has finished collecting his data he simply passes through a gate and walks to his home in minutes. This he attributes to stumbling upon a Stargate and being warped back to the exact same vectors from whence he came. The marvels of modern science and parabolic combustulation! He records his findings immediately, happy that he has had an adventure few will only dream of. In the Professor's next adventure he believes he has found a map leading to the lost underwater city of Atlantis and explores the watery realms beneath his local beach. In his patched together and leaking craft (with a converted microwave oven as an onboard computer) the Professor suddenly enters through a wide open tunnel into a place of nautical wonder and beauty. This Lost City of Atlantis looks remarkably similar to the new Marine Park which has opened down the road from his house, but the Professor is not fooled... he knows a long forgotten mythical undersea kingdom when he sees one. He even gets out of his craft to make contact with the large sharks he sees circling, knowing they mean no harm and are merely friendly guardians of this ancient watery realm. When he has taken in many more underwater wonders, the Professor utilizes his turbo-dynamic reversified thrusters and starboard ballast reticulators to blast out of the water, high above the heads of friendly dolphins and the cheering citizens of Atlantis. He leaves his broken down craft near the beach, to the consternation of many, and returns home to document his amazing journey. In his final adventure the Professor is looking for the thought-be-extinct giant Moa bird and builds a craft which bounces him across the neighborhood to 'the land that time forgot'. The craft lands with a thud after clipping a fence-like structure but with the help of his maximizing 'Enhancerator 3000' spectacles the Professor sets out on foot to explore this prehistoric land. He encounters Pterodactyls hanging upside down inside a cave-like structure, and a strange tribe of screeching, hairy men who are extremely fond of bananas. Though this land seems somewhat similar to his local zoo, the Professor is not naive enough to fall for such a mundane explanation when he is on the brink of major anthropomorphological breakthroughs. He adjusts his lenses to a minimizing one and suddenly finds himself in the middle of a group of cute household kittens. But when they suddenly begin to growl and prowl around him menacingly he must extricate himself by activating the spring-tastic, fuel-injected, retro-boosted coilometer units in his sneakers and leaping a fence to safety. Returning home, the Professor is in raptures about the many new species he has discovered but he's not happy at all to read in the local paper that vandals have put a hole in the local zoo's fence and let all the animals escape. These are just a few adventures in the Professor's repertoire. Who knows, he may have many more yet..
