Book excerpt: The Just War theory was and is mainly concerned with the prevention of human conflict and has largely ignored the impact it has had on the environment. Woods brings in environmental justice and ethics and likens the environment to a non-combatant who should not be harmed. He also goes on to introduce environmental ethics and environmental justice where the former refers to the ethical relationships between people and non-human nature and the latter is the ethical and political relationship between people and non-human nature. He goes on to observe that concentration has been largely placed on the environment being the cause of conflict in terms of the resources it holds rather than the conflict causing adverse effects on the environment.
