Book excerpt: The Episcopal Methodist Church, South was established in 1872 by six charter members, Dr. David Mock and his wife Sarah Ellington Mock, their daughter Melvina Mock Dillingham and her husband, Morgan V. Dillingham, Sarah's niece, Stella Ellington Records, and Mrs. Critchfield. One family and one friend began what would become the First United Methodist Church of Blue Springs, Missouri. David and Sarah Mock donated land for the first church built as a little one room red brick chapel. The Chicago-Alton railroad came through a mile and a half east of the settlement causing the town of Blue Springs to move. A new Main Street was created to accommodate the train station. David and Sarah once again donated land, this time at 16th and Smith location. The second building was built in 1884. 150 years later, First United Methodist is still standing firm, making a difference in Blue Springs and beyond. Join me as we travel the 150 year journey through time and explore how your story fits into the deep family history of First United Methodist Church of Blue Springs, Missouri.
