Book excerpt: Students with a diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) account for nearly 3-5% of the school aged population. Many of these students have difficulty with executive function skills such as planning and organizing, and carrying out a sequence of steps. Mindfulness training has been shown to benefit the executive function skills of self-regulation, self-awareness, social awareness, decision making, and relationship skills. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of mindfulness training on executive function in a student with a diagnosis of ADHD. This single case qualitative study described in detail through interview, observation, and data analysis how a student with ADHD in a special education classroom perceived the experience of mindfulness training and its effect on executive function.
