Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Malformations, Diseases and Injuries of the Fingers and Toes and Their Surgical Treatment This Essay was submitted to the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in the month of December 1864, in competition for the Jacksonian Prize, "On the Malformations, Diseases, and Injuries of the Fingers and Toes, and their Surgical Treatment," and in the spring of the present year the Prize was awarded to it. In preparing it for the press, I have incorporated with the original Essay a number of additional facts and cases which have come under my notice since the time when it was given in for competition. I venture now to offer it to the profession in its revised form, and am the more encouraged to do so from the fact that I have not been able to find any book which treats specially of these diseases.
