Book excerpt: A passion for ponies means that winning a scholarship to a school with fabulous stables is a dream come true for Taren, that is until one of the girls takes an instant dislike to the newcomer and decides to make her life miserable from the start. Luckily, her new friend Max makes life a little more bearable. Having been brought up with three brothers, Taren is a great footballer and the girls’ football team is keen to try her out until Taren is unfairly blamed for injuring a pony owned by the nasty bully girl and they question whether she should be invited to join them. Finding herself banned from the school’s stables until her name is cleared, is heart wrenching for her, particularly as she wonders whether her kindness might help a rescued and lonely pony living there. Battle lines having been drawn means that it is up to Taren to try to prove her innocence and find her way to fit in with the other students. Would she be able to do that? Ponies, friendship, football and truth make this a really excellent romp of a read.
