Book excerpt: The use of the latitude (low-pressure) chamber as a diagnostic tool in problem aeromedical cases is discussed. It provides a controlled altitude environment at ground level, thus providing greater safety and easier monitoring. Each 'flight' must be tailored to the individual case and should closely simulate the actual conditions surrounding the referral incident. Case histories of consultation cases from the School of Aviation Medicine are presented. The chamber is an aid to diagnosis in the following types of cases: ENT problems, cardiac problems, pulmonary problems, hypoxia, hyperventilation, and head injuries. ((AINJURIES. (Author).
