In the case of the Maghreb, scholars have examined the consequences of decolonization for both North Africans and Maghrebian immigrant communities now living in France, and international attention is currently focused on the rise of fundamentalism in Algeria and the implications of this for France and Algeria's domestic and foreign policies.
