Book excerpt: Excerpt from Views on Business Education The field of collegiate education for business has, in recent years, probably been studied, evaluated, and reflected upon more than any Other segment of our system of higher education. This sort of analysis has been a continuing thing over many years with respect to the American Association of Collegiate Schools of Busi ness.1 It has been done effectively and with constructive rigor by the business community.2 And finally, the two studies completed in 1959 for the Carnegie Foundation and the Ford Foundation have provided the latest impetus for this continuing reevaluation of the field.3 All in all the decade of the fifties was an interesting one for those who have been participants in the work of the field being studied. As the published Ford and Carnegie studies became available they were distributed widely to faculty members in the field of business administration. A great many schools used these studies as a further peg upon which to base a continuing reexamination of their own purposes and performance.
